Introducing Sue King

Sue is a Blue Badge Guide for London. The coveted Blue Badge is the highest guiding qualification awarded by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. Sue is also a member of the Guild of Registered Tourist Guides and the Association of Professional Tourist Guides. She is fully insured.

Blue Badge Guides must successfully complete 2 years of study and pass the requisite examinations which qualify them to guide in London and at sites within a few hours travel time – Click on Day Visits out of London for these locations. At many key historical sites (such as the Royal Palaces of Hampton Court and Windsor, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral), Blue Badge Tourist Guides are the only external guides permitted to conduct tours.

Sue was born in London and after a globe trotting existence, enjoying the sights and cultural delights of Europe, Asia and the USA, she finally settled in her home town. After 3 years study she is enthusiastic to share the history, architecture and diverse culture that London has to offer.

She has a BA Honours degree from York University and post graduate certificate in education. After many years teaching, she studied at Birmingham University for a Master of Philosophy degree in Art History. You can read her thesis on Symbolism in Victorian Art in the university library!

Sue has a fascination for all kinds of art and architecture and she has researched and planned a wide range of gallery tours and walks. Click on London Sites Walks and Galleries for a small sample of those she can offer – or she is happy to plan a walk just for you. They can be as serious or light hearted as you like!

She is also a qualified City of London Guide, which means that she has studied the oldest ‘Square Mile’ of London in depth – right down to the 2,000year old Roman remains which lie 20 feet belong the pavements! Let her guide you through a maze of secret alleyways – full of the ghosts of such historical characters as Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Benjamin Franklin, Charlotte Bronte, Elizabeth I and Jack the Ripper – to name but a few!
